- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -The New York State Music Fund published guidelines and criteria and accepted grant applications in a number of categories, including music education and public performances of music by artists working in hip hop, reggae, fusion, jazz, classical and folk music of all cultures.
Applications related to recording, distribution, or broadcast through traditional or new media were also eligible. Special emphasis was placed on reaching underserved populations and broadening awareness of artists, genres or styles with limited access to commercial broadcast or other mass distribution vehicles.
Advisory Panels comprised of recognized leaders from a cross-section of the music world evaluated and recommended applications based on criteria focusing on artistic merit and community impact. The award to Circuit Productions was among nearly 400 grants totaling more than $35 million made by the Music Fund.

Brooklyn, New York, July 1, 2010 – Circuit Productions, Inc. kicks off its annual free summer concerts with its 2010 Tap and Jazz Masters – Tap, Jazz and All that Blues Series. The seieswill be presented at sites throughout the city including Central Park’s Harlem Meer, the YMCA of Greater New York at sites in Brooklyn and the Bronx, and the Andrew Heighskell Braille and Talking Books Center at New York Public Library. All shows will be free to the public. The series pays tribute to the legendary artists and seminal artists who created America’s jazz and urban blues. Come celebrate the 4th of July with Pat Cannon Foot & Fiddle Dance Company’s
“All American – Stars & Stripes” offers a dazzling blend of traditional dance and music including clogging, tap, square dance, and Irish Step Dance. Foot & Fiddle’s dancers and musicians provide the historical interconnection between traditional American dances and their multicultural origins in the European, African and Native American cultures.
Harlem Blues and Jazz Band featuring, vocalist Ruth Brisbane
Come hear the Harlem Blues & Jazz Band - the world's most authentic swing band. It stars 6 veteran jazz and blues musicians, whose roots reach to the classic period of the 20's and the 30's. Some of these "originals" actually "jumped" at the Woodside and "stomped" at the Savoy with Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, "Fats" Waller, Louis Armstrong, and other jazz greats. On tour since 1976, the group has been called "a national treasure."

- Next two programs at Camp Friendship are on April 22nd featuring poet, Gary Glazner; and June 14th featuring African dance and drumming
Brooklyn, New York, April, 2010 –Circuit Productions, Inc. - along with three other Park Slope community partners – the Brooklyn Public Library, PS 39K, and the Park Slope Senior Citizens Center - will receive Citations from the Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz at the June 14, 2010 performances of “World Beat: A Study in Diverse Cultures in NYC through Dance and Music. The two 45-minute performances will take place at Camp Friendship Auditorium located at 339 8th St. Brooklyn, 11215, Entrance closer to 6th Ave. Presentation of awards at 10:15 am. Special Note: For parents, seniors and all other guests in and outside of council district #39 please call 718.638.4878 to confirm your attendance.
The performance is the last in a yearlong series of intergenerational programs. The “World Beat” series resulting from an alliance forged among the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), P.S. 39K/The Landmark School, the PSSCC and Circuit Productions, Inc. (CPI) brings four thematic presentations of interactive music and dance to audiences comprising all grades of the elementary school AND participants from PSSCC, simultaneously. “We are thrilled to advocate for and present such a diverse group of artists,” said Susan Goldbetter, Executive Director of Circuit Productions, “who bring their contemporary and world music to new communities.”
The "World Beat” initiative was launched in September 2009. Each program component provides skill-based learning opportunities, enriches the lives of youth and seniors, and celebrates the diversity that is so central to Brooklyn culture. The first two programs, designed to coincide with Latin Heritage month (October) and the holiday season (an International Stories presentation for December), have already taken place. The next presentation, a poetry celebration, is scheduled for National Poetry Month (specifically, April 22nd). The final performance - scheduled for June 14th - African Dance and Percussion - features dancer, Jerbean Gilkes and percussionist, Sanga of the Valley from the Charles Moore Dance Theatre.

Sonido Costeño: JuanMa Morales studied at Julliard School of Music, NYC New School of Music and received his degree from Cornell University. He also studied the National instrument of Puerto Rico, the Cuatro, with the legendary master Paquito Lopez Cruz. After many years performing Rock & Jazz music, his involvement with the Nueva Trova movement with Roy Brown y Aires Bucaneros brought him to interact closely with his Latin Roots. JuanMa wrote the score, directed and performed the Off-Broadway musicals Coco Bale and Baquine, written by Nuyorican poet Bimbo Ribas and sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA). From these multiple experiences he formed Sonido Costeño as a musical vehicle to a broader audience & commercial appeal. His charismatic and down to earth approach to performing makes JuanMa y su Sonido Costeño the popular band it is today.

The Tap and Jazz Masters Series is aimed particularly at underserved youth and senior populations in Brooklyn and is presented in collaboration with Brooklyn public libraries, senior centers and health facilities including Hospital Audiences, Ind.

Wednesday, December 2, 2009 Legendary jazz pianist/vocalist, Sarah McLawler will appear with saxophonist, Fred Staton – the 94 years young – veteran of the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band.
Wednesday, December 9 and 16, 2009 The fabulous Sarah McLawler will present special solo performances.
Friday, December 25, 2009 Duo with Sarah McLawler (jazz pianist/vocalist) and Teddy Williams (Actor, Singer, Dancer). Sarah McLawler is one of the living legends of American jazz. Ms. McLawler is the composer, conductor and performer of her current all women's jazz ensemble- Sarah McLawler and Les Femmes Jazz. In her wide-ranging career, Sarah has worked with many of the greats in the business, including Dinah Washington, George Benson, Pearl Bailey, Nat King Cole, Dionne Warwick, Gloria Lynn, Max Roach, Milt Jackson, Errol Garner, Art Tatum and many, many more. Broadway veteran and choreographer, Teddy Williams has appeared on Broadway in Hello Dolly! Pajama Game, The Happy Time and Within These Gates. In addition he’s appeared nationally and internationally in musical comedy festivals, theaters and as a celebrity on Australia’s national television network.
Tuesday, December 29, 2009 Performance with singer and composer Emme Kemp. A piano prodigy at the age of three, Emme Kemp has accumulated a lifetime's musical experience, which she communicates in a variety of styles and media: from ragtime to Broadway to Jazz. She wrote music & lyrics for and acted with the first Broadway company of the hit musical Bubbling Brown Sugar. As a member of the military Ms. Kemp produced shows for Special Services stateside.

Blues & Jazz Heritage Project showcases artists whose work preserves the rich culture of American music from the blues and jazz era. On August 4th, 2009 Bennie's Burrito will host Señor Lucky Blues Band. The band inspired by legendary blues musicians Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Little Walter, pays homage to these blues masters who have influenced their own musical style. Señor Lucky known for its Chicago style jump blues sound has appeared at Chelsea Piers, “Chicago Blues” and Langston Hughes Cultural Center. Band Leader Paul Handelman says, “Listening to the group will remind you why it's still a great thing to hear live music performed by seasoned musicians who have a deep love for the Blues!”

Brooklyn, New York, July 1, 2009 – Serena Rockower, Director of Marketing and Outreach at Circuit Productions, Inc., announced today the upcoming July dates for Rhythm Journeys: Masters of World Music and Dance, the Blues & Jazz Heritage Project, and World Beat Series.
The World Beat Series events and workshops take place, in collaboration, with public libraries, senior centers, museums and parks. They include interactive workshops in drums, hip-hop, and African dance.
Also featured will be the antic skills of the Brooklyn-based Russian family circus - the Burdetsky Family Circus Duet and their Dancing Dogs. Come join us on Saturday, July 18, at 1pm and again at 2 pm at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. This amazing family circus, led by Arkasha Burdetsky, spans three generations of circus artists. “Arkady”, as he is fondly known, was trained by and worked for the renowned Moscow Circus, as a distinguished acrobat and juggler. Of particular delight are the Burdetsky Dancing Dogs, Santa and Barbara, who keep audiences smiling as they sing, waltz, and perform hilarious tricks.

The Central Park Conservancy is sponsoring the summer series with Chase.
Audience members are encouraged to get there early and take the dance workshop preceding the performance. In addition, audience members attending the Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s Free Family Fridays program are encouraged to participate in an evening of Salsa, Mambo and Latin Dance led by dancer/instructor, Nydia Ocasio from Brooklyn’s own, Salsa Salon.

Blues & Jazz Heritage Project is aimed particularly at underserved youth and senior populations in Brooklyn and is presented in collaboration with Brooklyn parks, public libraries, senior centers, and/or health facilities. On August 2, 2009 the legendary Harlem Blues & Jazz Band – a group of veteran jazz and blues musicians whose roots reach to the classic Swing period of the 1920’s and 1930’s will perform at the Harlem Meer Performance Festival. Scheduled to appear will be the 94 year “young” Fred Staton on horn, Michael Max Flemming, bass, Bertha Hope, keyboard and Paul Handelman, harmonica. The featured vocalist will be Ruth Brisbane. A swing dance workshop precedes the event. The Central Park Conservancy and CHASE at the Dana Center in the North end of Central Park sponsor this program, part of the Harlem Meer performance Festival.
