Wo Famatou- African Dance & Drumming Duet

Featuring Ibrahima Kolipe Camara (Drums) & Yalani Bangoura (Dance)


Synopis of Program: “Wo Famatou” will perform a 30-45 minute live performance of traditional African Dance and Drumming within the context of a longer program celebrating Women’s History Month including a fashion show, commentary and remarks.


Ibrahima Kolipe Camara

Kolipe

Ibrahima Kolipe Camara is a Master Drummer from Guinea West Africa. At an early age Kolipe traveled throughout the regions of Guinea learning the different types of musical instruments, rhythms and dances from the many ethnic groups of Guinea. In 2000, Kolipe joined Les Ballets Africaines, the internationally recognized representatives of West African Culture, and the highest level of accomplishment for a Guinean percussionist. As a lead drummer for the Ballet, Kolipe toured throughout Africa and the United States, eventually settling in New York City. Currently he tours with Feraba-ART, Magbana, Drum CafÃ, and Kakande. He is in demand to perform with top musicians like kora player Mamadou Diabate and Sekouba Bambino. In addition he regularly conducts drum workshops locally and nationally as well as organizing Feraba: ART’s Summer Camp - an innovative summer camp for students 7-14 years of age in Flatbush Brooklyn.


Yalani Bangoura

Yalani Bangoura

Yalani Bangoura is a master dancer, performer, choreographer, acrobat and teacher of dances from his homeland, Guinea, West Africa. Known for his exuberant, contemporary hip-hop dance style he has appeared with prestigious African Dance companies including Magbana, Sankofa Kuumba, and Bamidele. A member of the award-winning West African dance and drum company Les Merveilles de Guinea he has toured France, Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast and Senegal. Yalani has been a member of Feraba since 1998 and teaches open classes at Alvin Ailey Company in addition he has been a teaching artist in the NYC public school system since 2000.
